Our Story
In the spring of 2017, Artistic Director Danielle Molan was working with an advanced chamber choir of high school singers who were preparing for the next chapter of their lives after graduation. For these young musicians, choral singing had been a defining part of their upbringing, with many having sung together for most of their lives. Yet, as the time approached for them to select a career path, they found themselves exploring interests outside of music.
Danielle witnessed the growing uncertainty and discouragement among the singers. Despite their passion for music, they couldn’t envision continuing their choral journey. While community and church choirs existed in the area, none catered specifically to their age group, with most participants being decades older. For those pursuing higher education, there were numerous a cappella groups to consider, but the highest level choral ensembles were typically reserved for music majors.
As the singers mentally prepared to close the door on choral singing, even though many planned to remain in the Philadelphia area, an idea began to take shape: why not continue making music together, even if only for fun? None of them, including Danielle, were ready to let go of the potential they shared as a group.
This moment of collective realization sparked the creation of Epiphany Singers. What began as a simple epiphany evolved into a mission: to provide young adult singers with an opportunity to experience a high-caliber choral ensemble that would both challenge and inspire them, while giving meaning to their musical journeys. This new choir would welcome all talented and passionate singers, regardless of their college major or chosen career path. It would also foster a sense of community among young adults in the Philadelphia area, uniting them through the power of music.
Our inaugural season in 2017 began with just nine singers—some of whom remain with us today. Our first performance, "The Road Home," took place on January 5, 2018, which, coincidentally, was the Feast of Epiphany on the liturgical calendar—another serendipitous nod to our choir’s name. Since then, we’ve performed over sixty pieces, many of which are major works, and our choir has grown in both size and artistic reach. We are immensely proud of the progress we’ve made, the challenging repertoire we’ve tackled, and the meaningful musical experiences we offer to young adults searching for their place in the world through their talents.
